Precision Concepts Group Announces BORALIGN®
Precision Concepts Group is now offering the latest development for the measuring of bores and bearings in internal combustion engines, compressors, turbines, pumps and other machinery. BORALIGN® is also designed for marine applications (stern tube bearing alignment) as well as for the alignment of work pieces to a boring head.

 

ANALYSIS
The fact that machinery moves during operation is established and well documented. Many manufacturers of rotating equipment provide expansion data for their products derived from theoretical calculations. It is Precision Concepts position that no matter how painstakingly careful one is in approaching these calculations, and no matter how sophisticated the mathematical approach, unavoidable limitations are encountered when applying pure theory to field situations. Further, thermal growth is not the only contributor to positional change of on-line machinery.

LASER ALIGNMENT
Laser technology, when employed correctly, limits the human element to the most fundamental task of setup. With all measuring tasks being performed by a transducer linked to a data collector (personal computer), Precision Concepts rotating equipment specialist's have the chance to concentrate on the process rather than measuring tasks. Fixtures are kept to minimal sizes, thus reducing the chance for uncertainty of measurements via systematic error in bracketing. Sag is not a consideration with lasers.

BORALIGN
BORALIGN®, the latest development for the measuring of bores and bearings in internal combustion engines, compressors, turbines, pumps and other machinery. BORALIGN® is also designed for marine applications (stern tube bearing alignment) as well as for the alignment of work pieces to a boring head.

BORALIGN® offers true bore center measurement, not just bore straightness. It measures whether multiple bores are in line with one another and with the rotating centerline of the shaft. Its measurement results to ISO 9000/MIMOSA standards can be documented through any office printer.

ROTALIGN
ROTALIGN® PRO, water-, shock- and dust-proof, is taking professional alignment to a higher level. Just enter dimensions, rotate shaft in one continuous sweep less than a 1/4 turn from any starting position and view results at coupling and feet.

ROTALIGN® PRO measures straightness (single-pass, vertical and horizontal) of ways, beds and other applications, far more quickly and accurately.

CENTRALIGN
Now a new laser optical method replaces piano wires, micrometers and optical instruments, reducing the alignment time to a fraction. CENTRALIGN® uses a visible-laser emitter and intelligent sensor to determine the centerline position of bearing pockets with micron accuracy, even over separations of up to 40m (130 ft.).

All readings are transmitted via cordless infrared link to a computer which automatically plots an alignment diagram of all measurement points along with their offsets from the laser reference line. The reference may be shifted to any desired position in the display so that the offsets are automatically recalculated; the laser eliminates troublesome pre-leveling and sag compensation.

PERMALIGN
The PERMALIGN® laser system measures and monitors alignment changes, commonly referred to as "Thermal Growth", of rotating machinery during operation.

PERMALIGN® is the only linearized laser measuring system with a resolution of one micron throughout the entire detector range of 0.630". The system permits accurate measurement of parallel and angular movement at distances of up to 30 ft. Temperature variations and vibration do not diminish accuracy.


DIGITAL LEVELING
The second generation of digital levels by Leica, the inventors of the first digital level, with modern and ergonomic design, large LC-display, cutting edge electronic technology, excellent optical and mechanical systems.

TRACKING

The built-in precision distance meter and its ability to locate and track a target make the Leica TDA5005 Total Station perform much like a standard laser tracker. Additional tracker-like capabilities, such as fast and flexible one-man operation, remote control option, along with a measurement volume far above 500m (1,640ft), make it an ideal tool for extremely large part inspection and assembly.

 

VIBRATION ANALYSIS
Using vibration analysis on rotating machinery, enables the early detection of faults before breakdown. This will reduce economical losses to production and equipment, saving industry millions of dollars in machine down time.

The evaluation of the changes in vibration response, critical speeds and stability of a machine, has become an important part of most maintenance programs. The aim therefore, is to evaluate machine condition for weaknesses. This will enable the diagnosis of faults, therefore repairs can be planned and performed economically.
